Woman Says Her Sister Asked Her To Babysit for Free During the Wedding — and Then Told Her She Wouldn’t Be in Any Photos

A Reddit user shared that she agreed to help her sister on her wedding day, but what that help turned into was not what she expected. In the post, she said her sister asked if she could watch several young kids during the ceremony and reception so the parents could enjoy the event. At first, she said it sounded like a simple favor for the day, and she agreed without thinking much of it.

As the wedding got closer, though, she said more details started coming out. According to her post, the plan was for her to be responsible for the kids for most of the day, including during the ceremony itself. That meant she would not be seated with the rest of the guests and would likely be stepping in and out as needed to keep the kids quiet and occupied. She said she started to realize that she would not really be attending the wedding so much as working through it.

The part that really caught her off guard came when she asked about photos. She said her sister told her she would not be included in the professional pictures because she would be with the kids during those moments. That was when the situation shifted for her. In the post, she explained that she had assumed she would still be part of the day as family, even if she was helping out here and there. Instead, it sounded like she would be missing most of the key parts entirely.

She wrote that the expectation was for her to handle everything without being paid, while also not being treated like a guest or included in the memories being captured. That combination is what made her start questioning whether she should have agreed at all. She said she did not want to cause problems right before the wedding, but also did not feel right about being asked to give up the entire day in that way.

The post did not describe a big confrontation. It read more like someone trying to figure out if this was normal or if something had crossed a line. She said she understood wanting a kid-free experience for the ceremony, but did not expect that to mean one family member would quietly be taken out of the wedding altogether to make that happen.
