“v has LOST the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate in Texas,” after skipping reelection bid for her House seat

U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett lost the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate in Texas, but viral posts claiming the loss “puts an END to her career in Congress” leave out key context: Crockett will leave the House at the end of her term because she did not run for reelection after launching her Senate bid, not because she was voted out of Congress in her district.

Texas state Rep. James Talarico won the Democratic Senate nomination, defeating Crockett in one of the most closely watched primaries of the 2026 cycle, according to multiple outlets reporting the results. Crockett conceded and urged Democrats to unify ahead of the general election.

The race unfolded amid election-day confusion in parts of Dallas County and Williamson County after changes to voting rules, an issue highlighted in reporting that noted the high-stakes Democratic Senate contest was among the races affected.

While Crockett’s Senate loss ends her bid to become the Democratic nominee, her departure from Congress is tied to a separate decision: she did not appear on the ballot for the Democratic primary in Texas’ 30th Congressional District, meaning she was not seeking another House term while running statewide. KERA reported that Rev. Frederick Haynes won the Democratic nomination to replace Crockett in District 30.

Crockett, a high-profile Democrat and frequent Trump critic, has not announced plans to leave politics, and losing a primary does not prevent her from seeking office again in the future. For now, though, her current House term is set to run through January 2027, after which the winner of the November election in her House district will take office.
