Man Says He Came Home to Find His Lights On — Then Security Footage Showed Someone Letting Themselves In With a Key

A man on Reddit said the first sign something was wrong was how his house looked when he pulled into the driveway. He said he always turned everything off before leaving—lights, TV, everything. But one evening, he came home and saw lights on inside.

According to his post, he assumed he must have forgotten. It wasn’t a big deal at first. But then it happened again a few days later—same situation, lights on when he knew he had turned them off.

That’s when it started bothering him.

He said he began checking more carefully before leaving—double-checking switches, making sure everything was off. But the pattern didn’t stop.

So he set up cameras.

He said he placed a camera inside facing the main entry area and left for work like usual. When he checked the footage later, he said his stomach dropped.

The video showed someone unlocking his front door and walking inside.

According to him, the person didn’t break in—they used a key. They walked in casually, moved through the house, turned lights on, and spent time inside before leaving.

He said the way they moved made it clear they weren’t worried about being caught.

At first, he couldn’t tell who it was.

Then he recognized them.

He said it was someone connected to the property—someone who should not have been entering without permission. He didn’t name them directly in the post at first, but later clarified it was someone with access through the landlord.

He immediately reached out for answers.

According to him, the explanation he got didn’t make things better. He was told it was for “checking on the property” and that it wasn’t meant to cause concern. He said no notice had ever been given, and no permission had been asked.

That’s when he realized it hadn’t just happened once.

He went back through the footage and saw multiple entries—different days, same pattern. The person would come in, move around, sometimes stay for a while, then leave.

He said the realization hit hard.

Someone had been entering his home repeatedly while he was gone, using a key, and acting like it was normal.

After that, he started documenting everything and looking into his rights. He also changed what he could on his end—adding extra security and being more cautious about access.

By the end of his post, he said the part that stuck with him wasn’t just seeing it happen—it was how routine it looked. What he thought were small mistakes, like forgetting a light, turned out to be proof that someone had been coming and going in his home without him ever knowing.
