Homeowner says a new neighbor tore through part of the backyard over a property line — and left the whole place in chaos

In a Reddit post, one homeowner said the trouble started after a developer bought the lot next to and behind their property, split it in half, and resold part of it. The poster said they had lived there since 2009 and that the previous owners had tried to preserve old-growth trees, but the new owner cut those down and moved ahead with a very different plan for the land.

According to the post, things got worse after the new neighbor had a survey done and began acting like that settled everything. The homeowner said the neighbor came onto the property and started making changes that immediately affected daily life in the yard. That included damage to grape plants, parts of a fence, and other backyard features the poster had been using without issues before.

The part that made the story feel especially messy was how quickly it turned from a line dispute into a real problem for animals on the property. The homeowner said the fence damage and changes in the yard created immediate concerns about keeping chickens and dogs where they were supposed to be. What might sound minor on paper suddenly became a situation where a few aggressive decisions by a new neighbor could leave the poster scrambling to keep animals safe and contained.

The Reddit post framed the whole thing less like one isolated disagreement and more like the latest move in a bigger pattern. The homeowner described a neighbor who had already changed the character of the adjoining land, run into county issues, and then seemed willing to bulldoze through existing boundaries anyway. By the time the poster wrote in, it was clear they were not talking about one awkward misunderstanding. They were talking about a backyard they no longer felt they could trust to stay untouched.
