“Early-Stage Breast Cancer”: Trump Announces Diagnosis for White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles

White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles has been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer, according to statements shared Monday by President Donald Trump and amplified by Vice President JD Vance on X. Trump said Wiles has decided to begin treatment immediately and described her prognosis as “excellent.”

In his statement, Trump said Wiles would continue spending “virtually full time” at the White House during treatment, calling her one of his closest and most important advisers. Vance also posted publicly that the Vance family was praying for Wiles “as she takes on her next fight.”

The diagnosis lands as Wiles remains one of the most influential figures in Trump’s second administration. She became White House chief of staff in January 2025 after helping steer Trump’s 2024 comeback campaign, and she was the first woman chosen for the role. Reuters and AP have both described her as a central force behind the more disciplined structure of Trump’s current White House compared with his first term.

Wiles, 68, is a longtime Republican strategist with deep roots in Florida politics. Before taking the West Wing job, she was widely credited with helping manage Trump’s winning 2024 campaign and had built a reputation as one of his most trusted behind-the-scenes operators.

So far, the White House has not released additional medical details beyond Trump’s statement, and there has been no public indication that Wiles plans to step away from her post. Based on the statements released Monday, the message from the administration is that treatment will begin right away and that Wiles intends to remain a major part of day-to-day White House operations.
