Bride says she tried to avoid picking the same wedding date as her brother — and he still demanded she change hers

In a Reddit post, one bride said she and her fiancé had already talked through their plans long before the proposal actually happened, so when they got engaged, they already had a wedding date in mind: September 2027. Her younger brother had gotten engaged earlier, but according to the post, he and his fiancée kept giving the family vague, shifting timelines instead of one locked-in day. She said they had mentioned everything from “next year” to several years down the road, and from fall to spring, without ever giving anyone an exact date.

That is why, she said, she called her brother before announcing anything. According to the post, she asked him directly whether he had picked a day yet because she did not want to accidentally choose the same one. He allegedly told her his date was “none of [her] business,” so she went ahead and shared her own. Instead of clearing things up, that call set off the real fight. She wrote that he then went to their mother and tried to get her to convince the bride to move her wedding back a full year because he and his fiancée wanted fall of the previous year, still without naming a specific date.

A few hours later, she said, her brother texted asking whether she was “dead set” on that date because he wanted either the exact same day or the Saturday after. The bride said that when their mother got involved, the conversation turned into him yelling and claiming he had already told her two weeks earlier when he wanted his wedding. According to the post, she said that conversation never happened and that they had already been arguing on and off before this anyway.

By the time she wrote the post, it was clear the date fight was tied to a bigger family strain. She said her brother had grown increasingly distant since starting the relationship, had been pushing family members away, and was now acting like this wedding conflict might be another line in the sand. Even so, she said she still did not want to lose him over it. Her parents thought she should keep her date, and another brother had even said that if the younger brother chose the same day, he would attend hers instead. But the bride was still stuck with the part that made it hurt most: she said this was someone who used to be her best friend.
