Man Says He Started Noticing His Garage Door Was Open — Then Found Out Someone Had Been Using It While He Was Gone
A man on Reddit said the first time it happened, he didn’t think much of it. He came home and noticed his garage door was open. He was pretty sure he had closed it before leaving, but figured maybe he forgot.
According to his post, it didn’t feel like a big deal—until it happened again.
Same situation. Same door.
He said he started double-checking after that. Before leaving, he would stand there and watch the door fully close. He even waited a few seconds to make sure it stayed shut.
But when he came back, it was open again.
That’s when it started bothering him.
He looked around the garage and didn’t see anything obviously missing, but small things were off. A tool slightly out of place. A box shifted. Nothing major—but enough to notice once he started paying attention.
So he decided to test it.
Before leaving one day, he set up a camera inside the garage.
When he checked the footage later, he said his stomach dropped.
The video showed someone opening the garage door and walking in.
According to him, it wasn’t forced entry. The person had access. They opened the door like they had done it before, walked in, looked around, and even used some of the space before leaving.
He said the way they moved made it clear they were comfortable.
That’s when he realized it hadn’t been a one-time thing.
He went back through more footage and saw multiple entries—different days, same pattern. The person would come in while he was gone, spend time inside, then leave before he got back.
He said the realization hit hard.
Someone had been using his garage without him knowing.
After that, he started documenting everything and tried to figure out who it could be. Based on access, he narrowed it down to someone who had previously been given entry—someone who still had a way in.
When he confronted them, he said the explanation didn’t make sense. They claimed it wasn’t a big deal and said they only used the space occasionally.
That didn’t sit right.
By the end of his post, he said he secured the garage, changed access codes, and made sure no one else could get in. What started as a door being left open turned into realizing someone had been coming and going in his space like it belonged to them.
